Husain Haqqani

Ambassador Husain Haqqani is Senior Fellow and Director for South and Central Asia at Hudson Institute and Diplomat-in-Residence at Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, Abu Dhabi.

He served as Pakistan's ambassador to the United States from 2008-2011 and is widely credited with managing a difficult partnership during a critical phase in the global war on terrorism.

Haqqani was Professor of Practice of International Relations and Director of the Center for International Relations at Boston University and has also taught at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) John Hopkins University and Institute of Politics of the University of Chicago.

Considered an expert on radical Islamist movements, Haqqani has been a journalist, academic and diplomat in addition to serving as advisor to four Pakistani Prime Ministers, including the late Benazir Bhutto. He received Hilal-e-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honors for public service.

He has written for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Wall Street Journal, TIME magazine, Newsweek, New York Times, Financial Times, Washington Post, Le Monde Diplomatique, and The Telegraph, among others, in addition to appearing on CNN, BBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, FoxNews, France4, SkyNewsArabia, CBC, DW, and other international Radio and TV channels.

His books include Pakistan Between Mosque and Military; Magnificent Delusions: US, Pakistan and an Epic History of Misunderstanding; India v Pakistan: Why can’t we just be friends? and Reimagining Pakistan: Transforming a Dysfunctional Nuclear State. His forthcoming book is ‘Seeking Lost Glory: Political Islam in the Modern Era.’
